Every year, my hubby and I make a big deal about our boys’ birthdays. We celebrated Maxwell’s, our Boston Terrier/Beagle Mix, 6th birthday at the park. We made our first stop at the Three Dog Bakery to pick up some desserts.

Then it was off to the park where the boys enjoyed their first treat

Nursery update

So phase one is almost complete. Phase 1 was removing everything out of the second bedroom aka my craft room, aka my dressing room aka my my husband’s work out room. We are still trying to find the best location for his weight machine since we live in a 2 bedroom condo, our space is limited. Here is the progress I have made.

Confessions of a Shopaholic

Okay, I have a confession. After doing so well and slowing down on the shopping to get ready for baby, I had a relapse. As I was finishing cleaning out the soon to be baby nursery, I realized I was down to one pair of black pumps whose heals were starting to wear down. So I decided to take my 20% off coupon and my gold member card and head off to Loehmann’s during my lunch from work today to get a new pair of black pumps. I went there with the best intentions to just pick up a pair of black shoes and head back to work. As I walked in, there were the cutest sweaters that greeted me at the front door. After a few quick glances, I went straight to the show section where I saw these boots.

After I rationalized why I needed snow boots (I don’t have any, I need these when I walk my dogs, if I have don’t have these I will slip in the snow, I’m pregnant and I need warm and comfortable boots, etc…).

So after I found that there is only one size 8 it made its way to my purchase list. Moving through the rest of the shoe section and found a pair of these classic black pumps.

Now I could of and should of walked directly to the cash register however these Max Studio suede booties caught my eye. My reason for getting these was that my heel broke on my last pair of black ankle boots and I had to throw them away last year.

So I a quick stop back in the sweater section, to pick up a sweater that I absolutely needed to keep warm in our cool offices, my trip to for a pair of black pumps turned into this:

So I have some exciting news! My husband and I are expecting a baby boy in January. So my new project is turning our second bedroom formally known as my craft room/dressing room/hubby’s workout room into a nursery. I already had a garage sale, donated to Easter Seals and Purple Heart twice to get rid of items and we still are not ready. I was surfing the web to get ideas on how to decorate a nursery. Day at the Park

It was a beautiful Sunday so we decided to take our boys to the park. We first stopped at the apple orchard for apples and sugar cinnamon donuts. The orchard was closed for a private party so we had to get our apples from the country store instead of picking the apples out ourselves.

Labor Day Weekend

I hope everyone had a safe and fun holiday. I did. I went to Cleveland to visit my family. We went to a barbecue at my cousin’s house. Lots of great food. I made two cheesecakes. A pineapple cheesecake that took less than 10 minutes to prepare and did not require any baking it just had to chill in the fridge for 2 hours. I then made a dulce de leche cheesecake which took a lot longer to make. Both came out very good. Let me know if you are interested in either of these recipes.

I was too busy chatting and eating to take pics at the barbecue to share. However, my sister, niece and nephew had a great time and it showed on the ride home. All of them fell asleep. Photographic evidence below:

Garage Sale

Over the weekend, my sisters and I held a garage sale in Cleveland. It was a hot day, however it was a decent turn out. The only jewelry I sold was to my sisters. However the Fabulous Chic Jewelry looked great on them.

Our Anniversary

Yesterday we celebrated our 1st year wedding anniversary. We celebrated by going out to fabulous seafood restaurant.

I work a black dress that I bought from Francesca’s a little boutique in La Jolla, CA.

For accessories, I wore a Fabulous Chic necklace made from sterling silver and Blue Goldstone.

Road Trip Part Two

The second leg of our road trip to was to Cape Cod. We stopped in Boston and Plymouth before our final destination to Cape Cod. We attempted to go to Boston Commons which is the oldest park in the country. After several failed attempts to get to the part we had lunch at U Burger and we were off to Cape Code. On the drive we saw the signs to Plymouth home of Plymouth Rock, so we stopped there.

Below is the picture of Plymouth Rock. I always pictured Plymouth Rock as this huge rock that the Mayflower landed on. It is not a very big rock.

After hanging out at Plymouth we drove to Provincetown, Cape Code. Provincetown had lots of great little shops. The following morning my boys and I hung out at the beach.

First leg of the road trip

Our first destination was Washington DC. We got into town late last night and stayed at a Hilton Alexandria, VA. In the morning, after dropping the boys off at the Pet Smart Doggie Day Care we were off to spending the day in DC. Our first stop was Howard University, where my husband and I met my freshman year in college.

Afterwards we went to Pizzeria Uno in Georgetown, the same restaurant that we went to for date nights. After lunch we did a little window shopping but due to the heat we didn’t stay too long.

DC is one of my favorite cities.

After Georgetown, we went to the Hard Rock Cafe to pick up a Hurricane glass. I collect them from every city that I go to, and then it was off to Pentagon City for reminiscing and shopping. During my junior year in college I worked at the Express in Pentagon City.

After shopping, we picked up the boys and then it was off to New York where we are staying for the night. We made a pit stop at the Hard Rock Cafe in Baltimore for another Hurricane glass.

About 11 o’clock this evening we make it to our hotel in New York and tomorrow morning we are off to Boston.

San Diego

I just got back home from San Diego. As many of you know, my day job is a HR professional and every year I got to the National Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM) Conference. This year it was in San Diego. This was the first time I have been to California and I could definitely become and Cali girl. I loved California. Unfortunately it was not a lot of fun in the sun since San Diego was experiencing what they call June Gloom. The temperature stayed in the 60s. Even with the chilly weather, San Diego was a beautiful city. We stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel, which was very modern and the shopping in La Jolla was great. Sea lions were hanging out at the beach with us. We had an incredible time. I even saw Erik Estrada, the guy from Chips.

On Sunday we celebrated my Maltese Chico’s birthday. We started the celebration at the Three Dog Bakery in Plymouth. It smelled so good as soon as we walked in, like cinnamon. The desserts look like human desserts. Maxwell, my beagle/Boston terrier mix and Chico quickly made friends with the baker. We bought the boys a carrot cake, boxer brownies and vanilla and strawberry ice cream.

Afterwards we walked to the Park where the boys took a quick break to eat their sweets. Then it was back to running around at the park.

When we got home, it was dinner time and the boys had ice cream for dessert.

Afterwards it was time to open gifts. Chico loves stuff animals, but Maxwell loves to destroy them so I have a lot of these toys in the stuffed animal infirmary waiting for me to conduct surgery to repair the damage.

Sorry about the infrequent posts. My company was moving their corporate headquarters so I have spent many weekends packing and this weekend unpacking. It is amazing how much paper we have accumulated over the years. It was a great time to purge. I found papers in my office from 1999. I didn’t start with my company until 2004!

Our new offices are amazing. Our previous headquarters,which was in one our treatment centers, are now in a high rise office building with id badges that we have to swipe to get into our suites. We are very corporate now. After I was issued my id badge and did my critique on how I wish I did something different with my hair, I immediately went on Etsy to look for a a retractable id badge holders. Weekend Makeover

I went to Cleveland this weekend to hang out with my family for Mother’s Day. On Saturday, I gave my sister a make-over using Avon and Mark cosmetics. My sister doesn’t use much make up so I wanted to keep her look very natural.

On my sister I used the Mark Please Hold primer in Medium/Dark-this product does double duty as a primer and concealer. The Please Hold primer will not be available for purchase until May 26, 2010. I used Anew Age-Transforming Foundation in medium beige.

For eye shadow I used Mark eye shadows in Biscotti over the entire eye and Expresso in the crease. I lined her upper and lower lids with black/brown Avon pencil eyeliner. I used Avon Supershock mascara on the top lashes.

On her cheeks I used Mark Just Pinched instant blush tint in Spicy.

On lips I used Dew Drenched Moisturlicious Lip color in Dew and Glow Baby Glow Luxe Hook-up lip gloss in Flirty Luxe

So a co-worker gave me a coupon for the Coach outlet store, 20% off any purchase and 30% off any purchase of $250.00 or more. In an hour, I was done and walking out with gifts for my mother, mother-in-law, my sister and a little something for myself.

I was pretty set on purses, I thought I had all the bags in all the colors that I need, (silver, black, brown, stone, cognac) but I found this great neutral color tote that is a great every day bag. It goes with many things so I don’t have to change my purse so often. The original price of the bag was $358 and I ended up paying $118.31. I also ended up getting a wallet, original price was $208 and I ended up paying $66.49. The deals at the Coach outlet are amazing.

New Signature Piece

I love working with Pearls, fresh water and Swarovski Pearls. I made pearl necklace that is perfect for weddings, formal events as well as for the office. This necklace has a slight twist to your mother’s string of pearls. The necklace that I am wearing is made from white and lavender Swarovski 8mm pearls. The center of the necklace is made from 10mm white Swarovski pearls separated by Swarovski crystal rondelle beads. I paired the necklace with a white sweater and gray slacks. What do you think about the necklace?

Over the weekend I made a double stranded turquoise and sterling silver multi-strand necklace. I planned to sell on my Etsy shop but after I tried it on with my outfit today and decided to keep it. I felt very bold wearing Turquoise with a pale yellow sweater. This is the first time I wore accessories that did not match perfectly with my outfit. I loved how it looked, to pair such a bold color with a pastel color. What do you think?

Make-up Shelf life

I am planning on going to Cleveland this weekend to celebrate Mother’s Day with my family. Every time I visit my family I always clean my closet to bring my unwanted clothes and shoes for my mom and sisters. As I was doing my Spring cleaning I thought it would be a good time to clean out my make-up bags. Over the years, I have accumulated tons of make-up and never threw anything out. Did you know make-up doesn’t last forever? Here are some tips from one of my Mark rep forums on the shelf life of make-up.

Mascara:3-6 months
Concealer: 18 months
Liquid Foundation: 1 year
Cream eye shadow: 12-18 months
Powder eye shadow: 2 years

Since I had a number of products that were way past the shelf life I got rid of a lot of my make-up and replaced it with Mark cosmetics. I was never a big fan of liquid eyeliner until I used this product.

My favorite lip gloss is Lots of Lacquer in colors thrill and pop. This lip gloss provides great color and lots of shine. This item won’t be available at my mark boutique until the end of May but will be completely worth the wait. I love this lip gloss.

I packed up my Mark Super Cosmetic bag with samples and I was off.

My first stop was downtown Plymouth. I started at Pam’s Bead Garden, to get some supplies and then it was down to business. I stopped at a local bakery to post on their community board.

Since I brought my pups for the ride I made a pit stop at the doggie bakery. I picked two bunt cakes and some cookies for my boys.

Now it was back to business, I went to another bakery with a community board and posted my samples up and then off to the grocery to do the same.

Hopefully, this will generate some business :)

When I got home my boys really enjoyed their treats.

My Hiatus

I'm back. I can't believe it has been so long. Before I went on my hiatus I was having continuous computer problems, which was one of the reasons why I went on a hiatus. I had to finally bury my old computer and bought a netbook. What other things have I done during my hiatus? Well let's see....

1. I became a Mark Rep. Check out my e-boutique at www.mymarkstore.com/tdaniel
2. I decided to follow Ramsey' s money management plan. (Dave Ramsey the financial guy, has written books, has a radio and television show), fell off of Ramsey ( I made the mistake of going to the mall during my lunch and came back with 3 pairs of shoes and 2 pencil skirts) and went back to Ramsey.
3. I bought the Biggest Loser for Wii and so far lost 8lbs. (The first 5 lbs were due to a stomach flu but the last 3 were due to the game)
4. Attempted to garden and realized I have no green thumb. RIP tulips, roses, Peace Lilly, and Orchid Lilly
5. I'm still putting in very long hours at my day job.
6. Stopped biting my nails.
7. Had a health scare with my dog Maxwell, my husband found a lump on his side. After a $600 biospy we found out it was just a fatty tissue. Thank goodness and why didn't we invest in pet insurance when our dogs were puppies?
8. Acknowledged my addition to Mark and Avon brand cosemetics (one of the reasons I became a Mark rep)
9. Realized how much I missed blogging.
10. Realized how much I missed making jewelry.

Check back often, I plan to post frequently as I get back into my blogging routine.

Happy New Year!

I know its been a long time since my last post. I recently decided to take a hiatus from making jewelry and blogging. My New Year's Resolution is to pay off all debt and start saving like I should. I have been spending so much dinero on jewelry supplies and sales haven't been so great :( so I decided to take a break.

I hope everyone is enjoying Turkey day and remembering what they are truly thankful for. I am thankful for my healthy family, my fantastic pups, a great job in a not so great economy and my fab chic customers and blog followers :)

During the holidays, I break out the baker in me. One of my favorite desserts that I make is Sweet potato cheesecake. I received this recipe from one of my friends. The recipe is by Sweet Potato Festival, Vardamon, Mississippi, 1994

Crust:

1 1/2 cups of graham cracker crumbs
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/3 cup butter or margarine-melted

Cheesecake:

3 8oz pkgs cream cheese--softened
1 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup light brown sugar
1 3/4 cups sweet potatoes, mashed
2 eggs
2/3 cup evaporated milk -- undiluted
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Topping:

2 cups sour cream--room temperature
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Crust: Combine crumbs, sugar, and butter in bowl. Press onto bottom and 1 inch up on sides of 9 inch spring form pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 6 to 8 minutes. Do not allow to brown. Remove from oven and cool.

Cheesecake: Beat cream cheese, sugar and brown sugar in large bowl. Beat in sweet potatoes, eggs, and milk. Add cornstarch, cinnamon and nutmeg. Beat well. Pour into crust. Bake at 350 degrees for 55 to 60 minutes or until edge is set.

Topping: Combine sour cream, sugar and vanilla. Spread over warm cheesecake. Return to 350 degree oven and bake 5 minutes. Cool on wire rack. Remove side pan and chill several hours or overnight.

For extra sweetness, I have adjusted the original recipe slightly by making the following changes:
Cheesecake: Increase sugar to 2 cups and add 1 tablespoon of vanilla. For the topping, I increase the amount of sugar to 1/2 cup. I also decreased the amount of sour cream to 1 1/2 cups. Once the cheesecake is fully cooked, I sprinkle a brown sugar mixture on top. The mixture consists of 1 tablespoon of brown sugar, 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg.

I'm back from vacation, my computer is back from the shop so I am back in commission. Below are the pics from our family road trip

Technical Issues

I am so frustrated. My computer is in the shop again. It is time for me to start saving for a new computer. Also my charger for my digital camera isn't working. I am having technical issues. So I am going to be offline with blogging for several days. Last night, Office Depot called me and said that they were need several day to fix my computer.

The hubby, my boys and I are going on a mini road trip this weekend. We are going to Knoxville, TN, Charlotte, NC, Smoky Mountains National Park, Nashville, TN and then back home to MI. I will take a ton of pics to share!

Due to my technical issues there will not be a Two Dollar Tuesday today :( but I will work on fabulous jewelry pieces for next Two Dollar Tuesday.

New Jewelry

I added two new pieces of jewelry to my Etsy shop.

This bracelet I really like. It is made from dark purple and gray Swarovski pearls. The sterling silver beads are the beads I bought from the gem and jewelry show I went to a few months back. I love the color of the pearls.

I really had a lot of fun making these earrings. This was the first time I have done this type of design with wiring. I was in a earring making mood and wanted to try something different and the concept of these earrings were born. I really like how the earrings came out.

Sorry, I haven't blogged since last Tuesday. I've been pretty busy filling orders. I had a customer who bought several blue passion and the gray and blue Swarovski pearl earrings for her bridesmaids a couple of weeks ago. She recently sent me a convo on Etsy this week for additional earrings. I have been pretty busy with that custom order. You all know I love custom orders.

I've had several sales this past week, and two today. YEAH! I'm so excited that my sales have picked up.

This weekend I spent my time finishing up my custom order and making really cool earrings. I have been in such an earring making mood. I plan to take pics and post the new items tomorrow. October seemed to be the month of Birthdays. I went to Cleveland to celebrate my niece Chloe (my niece who was born 3.5 months early and the inspiration for my Chloe collection) and my nephew Reggie. Reggie turned 6 on October 7 and Chloe turned 1 on October 9. Below are pics from my party weekend.

Reggie wearing his new Labron James jersey that his parents got him. He got a pair of the Labron sneakers too which was his favorite present. He put on his jersey and sneakers on immediately. I think I am going to have to take him to a Cavs game. Reggie is a big Cavs fan and even bigger Labron fan.

Computer Update

On Saturday I went to the International Gem and Jewelry Show that was held in Novi, a suburb of Detroit. I only took $100.00 in cash so once my money was gone I left the show, otherwise I could of gotten into a lot of trouble. The item of the week was made from the gemstones and sterling silver chain that I bought at the gem show.

My metals stamps and stamping blanks came in last week too. I spent yesterday afternoon and this morning practicing with my stamps. Below is a bracelet that i made using my metal stamps and Swarovski pearls (my favorite beads to work with). TD are my initials, C M are the initials of my pups (Chico and Maxwell) and the Sagittarius sign. I plan on ordering additional Zodiac signs but so far I only have Sagittarius stamp. Below is a picture of the bracelet I made.

My husband and I went to his college roommate's wedding. It was a beautiful wedding on the Detroit Riverfront overlooking the Detroit River with Canada as the backdrop. It was absolutely beautiful. I wish I took more pictures.

They had the best wedding favors that I have seen. They had a photo booth from http://www.mobileexposures.com/, where the guests could take their pictures. One copy would go the the guests and the other goes into a scrapbook for the bride and groom. To the left is the picture my hubby and I took.

The dress I wore was a periwinkle blue dress from J.Crew see pic below. The dress is lighter color blue than in this picture.

And the necklace I wore was a Fabulous Chic Design that I made the morning of the wedding to match the necklace.

I had such a great weekend! On Saturday my Hubby and I went to a University of Michigan game. Although, I am a Buckeye fan, it was so much fun to go to a Big Ten game. We had great seats, right on the 50 yard line. One of the vendors from work gave me two tickets.

On Sunday, we drove to Cleveland. My sister and mom threw us a barbecue to celebrate our recent nuptials. The food was great and the cake was delicious. We had a great time hanging out with the fam. Above are the pics from the barbecue.

This weekend I made several new bracelets. The Green and Pink bracelets are currently for sale at my Artfire Shop. The blue and gray bracelet will be posted on Artfire shortly. I also made a pair of earrings and a bracelet to feature for Two Dollar Tuesday. I haven't had a chance to take pics and add it to my Etsy Shop. What do you think about these two necklaces? The focal stones in both of these necklaces are dyed Agates. These stones are rather large measuring 2.25 inches long. Necklace 1 is made from Turquoise colored dyed Agates connected by sterling silver jump rings and sterling silver daisy spacers. Random Monday

So I spent the weekend shopping for supplies on at Etsy, perusing through my wire jewelry magazine and spending time at my local beads store. I have decided buy stamping tools to make engraved jewelry. There are Etsy shops that have really great deals on the supplies. At my local bead store, I got very large focal pieces of dyed agates to make big and chunky necklaces. I have been inspired.

I am really tempted to keep the bracelet that I have featured as the item of the week this week. It came out just as I envisioned. I already know the outfit that it will look great with, so I am going to hold out posting it on my Etsy shop. However, if anyone is interested purchasing the bracelet, just drop me a line at fabulouschicdesigns@yahoo.com and I can can make a custom one for you.

I have been neglecting my Artfire shop, so what I decided to do is reinvent my Artfire shop. My new business cards don't even have my Artfire web address :( My plan is to have my Etsy Shop feature my wire jewelry and my Artfire shop have my beaded jewelry and promote it accordingly. So over the next few weeks I am going to work on dynamic beaded pieces for my Artfire shop. When it is ready, I will have a Grand Re-opening Sale at my Artfire Shop. Any colors or specific styles of jewelry you would like to see in my Grand Re-opening?

Random Monday on Tuesday?

Sorry all for the very late Monday post. The last few days have been so busy. However, this weekend my in laws threw my hubby and me a barbecue to celebrate our recent nuptials. At first, I was a little worried because all the guests were people from the church that my husband grew up in but we haven't visited since we started dating, so I didn't know any of the guests. However it was a lot of fun and everyone was so giving. So I'm thinking, off to Ikea, we need a matching bedroom set. We have a mix match set, my old night stand and my dresser and my husband's old bed, dresser and nightstand that he had since college. It is time for an update, especially since I am embarrassed to say we are sleeping in a full size bed L

This is a very random post because now I am going to discuss a very different topic. Yesterday morning, as I was walking my dogs and where I have my very in depth thoughts such as what am I going to wear to work today, jewelry pieces, what I want to make for the item of the week, you know life altering decisions ;)
As I’m thinking of my pieces, I have these great ideas for jewelry pieces but can’t find the materials that I need to create the pieces. I am getting a little frustrated. I feel that my last few pieces are getting redundant. Don’t get me wrong, I love the pieces that I made and are all jewelry pieces that I wear, but I feel I am limited based on the materials that I have. So over the next few weeks I will be researching new online and local bead stores. What I am looking for are sterling silver and copper findings and charms, so if you know any online stores or Etsy shops that have unique and cool charms, findings, gemstones and/or beads please forward my way. I will also spend my Saturdays visiting local beads stores. Wish me luck!

I am also thinking about getting engraving stamps to make personalize jewelry. I will let you know if I decide to get it.

What do you think of this sterling silver and Swarovsoki crystal necklace? I make this necklace for myself. I wanted another cross necklace. The pendant is sterling silver and Swarovski crystal AB. Swarovski crystals and sterling silver daisy spacers are intertwined in the sterling silver chain. The Swarovski crystals are connected to the chain with sterling silver wire using a gallery wrap technique.

This necklace is the same style that I made my niece, but in silver with a bigger more elaborate cross.

As you may all know that my day job in HR. I am a HR Manager at a health care facility. I usually work about 55 hours a week. Currently, we are down one person in our department and the work load is even heavier. With all that said I am very disappointed to say that I will have to suspend my Wednesday through Saturday posts until I am able to get caught up at work. I will continue the New Item of the Week (I really value all of your opinions), Random Mondays, Two Dollar Tuesdays and twice a month I will host Feature Fridays.

I will continue to post Fabulous Chic updates, but I will not be able to post on a daily basis. Hopefully this will not last long :(
